Cayucos
Cayucos is the classic Central Coast beach town, the kind of place where the pier is the center of life and the pace never hurries. With about 2,500 residents on the shores of Estero Bay, it offers six miles of soft white-sand beach, gentle surf, and a downtown that still feels like old California. The town was founded in 1867 by Captain James Cass, who built the original pier and warehouse, and its name comes from the Spanish word for the small boats the Chumash paddled offshore. It is small, friendly, and wonderfully unpretentious.
